\"SX-PQ\"20141002_201251\"On October 2, 2014, Busby Biological Services, Inc. (BBS) was honored to receive a meritorious award\u00a0in the category of Outstanding Technical Document at the 2014 San Diego Chapter Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP) Awards Event\u00a0for the\u00a0Biological Technical Report (BTR) we prepared for\u00a0SDG&E’s Sycamore Canyon to Penaquitos Substation 230 kV Transmission Line Project. The work that went into this BTR played a major contribution in helping SDG&E & TRC Solutions, Inc. (TRC) also receive an\u00a0award for Outstanding Environmental Analysis \u2013 Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND)\/Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Proponent\u2019s Environmental Assessment (PEA) prepared for the same project. These awards were given to agencies and\/or firms which published an outstanding environmental documents in 2013 or 2014.<\/p>\n

The proposed project will provide a 16.7 mile 230kV transmission connection between its Sycamore Canyon Substation located
\non USMC Air Station Miramar and the Penasquitos Substation in the Torrey Hills Community in San Diego, Ca.\u00a0 The project will include, in part, replacement of existing wood structures with steel when possible, installation of new 230 kV steel poles, utilization of existing structures within SDG&E\u2019s existing right-of-way and installation of new underground lines in SDG&E\u2019s franchise position along Carmel Valley Road.\u00a0 The proposed project was initially a California Independent System Operator (ISO) policy driven project but has also been identified as necessary to ensure grid reliability by a task force set up by Governor Brown investigating the Southern California electrical grid in the absence of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS).<\/p>\n

The jurors provided the following comments on our BTR:<\/p>\n

“It is a complex project described in an easy-to-understand way. The graphics are extremely helpful and easy to understand. This is a high-profile project with lots of information \u2013 they did an excellent job of pulling everything together in a cohesive, easy-to-read document.”<\/p>\n

We\u2019d like to thank the jurors for providing their positive feedback. We worked so hard to make sure the report was written well and on par with a bigger company, so this positive feedback is wonderful to hear. We\u2019d also like to thank Elisha Back at TRC for taking a chance on us and giving us this opportunity! We really appreciate all the support from TRC and SDG&E, more than words can say!
